Digital Photography for Auctions
Here are some digital photography tips for getting good photographs to sell on online auctions.
First, try to photograph in natural lighting. Incandescent or fluorescent lights create an undesirable color cast. Some digital cameras have a feature that adjusts your white balance so you reduce or eliminate this unwanted color cast. However, a natural light source, such as a window, balcony or patio is still better.
When taking indoors, try to take in good light so you can turn your flash to "off". You want to avoid the unwanted glare that you will get when the flash strobes a shiny surface, such as jewelry, acetate, glass and so on.
If the picture is too dark without a flash, try adding a second light source. You might place a light bulb to one side, so you get light from both the window and the bulb. If you plan to do a lot of digital photography for online auctions, you might want to invest in a special photography light.
When photographing, set your digital camera to take the smallest possible picture, usually called the email setting or the "640 by 480" setting. There is no need to take up your media's storage space with huge pictures when you must reduce them in size to accommodate eBay's requirements.
Since digital cameras are sensitive to motion or vibration, a tripod is a good investment. You might be able to set the camera on a table or stand and use the Self Timer to take the picture - but tripods are affordable and in the long run, they are your best choice. You don't want a blurred image.
Digital photo editing software such as the excellent Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows
is a good choice. You might also get away with using eBay's Basic and Enhanced Picture Services
This is just one money making suggestion. Check the article list for more ways to make money with digital photography.
